Living in Tertiary Spaces

After a series of round tables and publications, the project ‘Everything Transforms’ led by the TRANSFORM Institute and the architecture department continues to evolve. Starting in the fall of 2024, it will take the form of a biannual symposium organized by members of the institute around the theme of transformation.

Under the title Living in Tertiary Spaces, the first edition of the symposium will take place on November 14 and 15, 2024.

Amid Switzerland's low housing vacancy rates and limited land reserves, the focus will be on the transformation of vacant office spaces from the 1960s-1980s into residential units. Featuring a panel of architects, researchers, and project leaders, the symposium will explore new housing typologies and the broader implications of mid-20th-century building transformations. An exhibition will also showcase research and educational projects.
