Sensing and Modeling Human Behavior in Built Environments for Healthcare and Rehabilitation
Open to all audiences, this presentation introduces Ami Ogawa’s university, her lab – the Architecture-Human Interaction Systems Lab – and the research motivations behind her work. Her research focuses on the relationship between built environments and human movement, with particular attention to health, independence, and daily living.
The main part of the presentation focuses on selected studies based on her published papers. These include research on knee osteoarthritis screening during stair walking, design implications of stair environments for health screening, and a pilot study on furniture-assisted walking and furniture height. These studies illustrate how architectural environments can be analyzed and designed as systems that support mobility, care, and inclusive living.
While the presentation primarily focuses on published studies, it also briefly introduces the broader scope of her research, including daily movement in living environments, human behavior in public spaces, and the relationship between office design and well-being.
Senior Assistant Professor Ami Ogawa
