Measuring, interpreting and representing the pulse of the city

This project, developed in collaboration with the iCoSys and ENERGY institutes, led to the development of a hybrid demonstrator (physical and virtual) animating mobility flows, densities and day/night cycles around the Pérolles training centre in Fribourg.

Road traffic has a considerable impact on the comfort and quality of life in our neighborhoods and cities, notably on air quality and noise pollution. The recent evolution in sensors, communication networks and Big Data analytics open up new perspectives in the measurement and analysis of those impacts.

The CityPulse project seeks to offer live, localized and continuous measurements of the city through the installation of a network of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors.
