Integration of carbon budgets and natural light in building envelope design

Light Budget is a collaborative project that aims to prioritise construction strategies and techniques that provide the best ratio of light quality to CO2 emissions. It will also determine the target carbon budgets at the facade component level with a view to identifying construction techniques that could be compatible with climate neutrality.

These per-component budgets could also serve as targets for manufacturers to reach in order to guarantee that their products remain competitive on the low-carbon market. They will also provide a roadmap for R&D to shift towards the development of products prescribed by the market of tomorrow, which itself will be subject to growing constraints until 2050.

In addition to generating valuable results, the project should help its partners specifically and the industry in general to improve their ability to assess the carbon footprint of construction products and buildings.
