Optimizing Comfort Systems in Buildings

Buildings account for one-third of the world's energy consumption, with 70% of that energy used for heating and cooling. Recognizing the potential for significant energy savings, Professor Dolaana Khovalyg (EPFL) and Agnes Psikuta (Empa) have been awarded an SNSF grant to support the development of a guide for optimal design based on personalized comfort systems.

Personal comfort systems (PCS) allow heating and cooling to be adjusted specifically and individually, with the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 60% and while improving occupant comfort.

The project is featured on the website of the SNSF.
