Industrial heritage and contemporary challenges: urban regeneration and ecological transition

The HEIA-FR invites Marina Gasnier, Professor at the University of Technology Belfort-Montbéliard in history of technology and epistemology of industrial heritage, on 14 October 2019 at the Smart Living Lab in Fribourg.

Since the emergence of industrial heritage in the mid-1970s in France, conversion operations have multiplied and uses have diversified. Integrated into spatial planning strategies, these operations contribute to the transformation of a historic industrial landscape. Independently of the use and surface area of the site to be reinvested, the opening up of the site and its openness to the surrounding area is a constant, as are mixed programmes combining culture, economy, housing or facilities.

Based on a corpus of research, this communication will make it possible to reflect on what "makes heritage", on the memory trace, on the meaning, on the value of the heritage object inexorably linked to the emotional relationship that man carries with it, variable over time and in societies. Finally, it will examine the role given to industrial heritage in the development policies of cities whose changing urban model is constrained by new environmental concerns, both in built and landscape terms.
